Vegetarian Footwear

It is reasonable to assume that as a vegetarian you don’t want to eat any foods that come from animals, so you won’t want to wear any footwear made from animal products either. Therefore a line of vegetarian clothing and footwear has emerged to meet the needs of consumers who want to look stylish and fashionable. Vegetarian footwear consists of shoes, boos and slippers made from non-animal material as opposed to the traditional material, which is leather.

Hemp is the most commonly used material in vegan footwear. This material is strong, yet flexible, which is why it is a good substitute for leather. When hemp gets wet, the fibres actually strengthen, so there is no risk of your footwear soaking apart when it rains or snows. Hemp footwear is not only long lasting; it is very comfortable as well.

Cotton and other textiles derived from plants are also materials used in the manufacture of vegetarian footwear. In addition, there is a new material available, called vegetan, which looks and feels almost like leather. This material is waterproof, breathable and resistant to scuff marks, which makes it the perfect choice for footwear.

With the materials available for Vegan footwear, there are many different styles one can choose from. Athletic footwear, for example, can be made from either hemp or canvas. In this line of footwear, the canvas material is very light and the shoes contain the same quality of support as the regular types of footwear made from leather.
